Historically, 'Cut & Pitch' was the main solution for roof construction. Using joists & purlins to create a pitched roof was seen as normal. Even today, this method of construction is still extremely popular, especially areas with difficult access or a wide range of intricate pieces or one-off projects.

Since the 1970s timber engineering has continued to develop from fairly simple roof trusses to extremely complex roofs. The advent of computer generated modelling has made calculation far easier and cost effective, reaching the point where roof truss systems now account for a vast amount of the domestic roof market.

FORT works very closely with a small, tight knit group of roof truss manufacturers who have the ability to design and manufacture virtually any roof option.

  • Fort Roofing - GlulamGlulam

When you need to cover large spans, or engineer in higher loadings, plain constructional timber may not be capable of meeting your requirements. That's where Glulam comes into play!

So, what is Glulam? Quite literally Glue & Laminate. Made from planed timber sections that have been finger jointed together, giving long strips of Lamella. Glulam is made by gluing these strips together forming a large & long length of the required section.

Glulam is a perfect solution for larger spans or when engineering in higher loads compared to plain constructional timber. The beauty of Glulam is that it can be formed into almost any length, width & thickness. They can be easily cut, drilled & jointed, using basic equipment.
