In January we mentioned the weather and here we are in February and guess what? Yes, it’s all about the weather! Biblical, historical, torrential….when will it ever end? record breaking amounts of rainfall, especially as you move further West, have slowed construction down.

Our team came back from the Christmas break wonderfully rested and showing off their Christmas haul of new pants and socks, all eager to get back to work. Getting back up to speed was made more fun by the “variable” weather, with snow, torrential rain and unseasonably warm sunny days thrown in!

Looking back to January 2020 when we opened with one truck, one van and big dreams, it’s easy to look at where we are now and see that an awful lot has changed. We now have 9 vehicles, 26 staff, around 5 acres of storage, a showroom and brick library, and a huge amount of stock!

December sees the Christmas decorations go up, the Christmas jumpers (and suit?!?) come out and spirits raised through a load of events that take place before we close. The team get together, songs are sung and good times are had!

August is peak holiday time and there’s been a very early harvest which all reduces demand, which will return once people are back in their usual roles.The recent fall in interest rates are another welcome boost. As we’ll explain below in our summary, further rate falls look unlikely for a while, but they are blunt instruments that are applied to control inflation. If the general economy slows down we could well see further cuts. There’s plenty of headroom in the system to allow further cuts.

Here at FORT we’ve gone through a bit of a refresh cycle on our vehicles in 2025, and the new trucks are starting to get seen around and about and their livery helps them to stand out. You may have even noticed that each one is named? Well, each is a real person and over the next few months we’ll begin to reveal who these people are!

The building industry is going through a very interesting phase. We know that there’s a massive underlying demand for new homes; that our existing housing stock is in relatively poor condition and insulation of existing homes is way behind where we need to be to achieve anything close to carbon neutrality. The government has a plan (wish?) to build 1.5 million homes before the next election. Business should be booming! Read on for further insights...

Here in ‘FORT World’ it’s been a very busy time. June was exceptionally busy; July returned to more normal patterns but we’ve been having a great time with our FORT Summer Spectacular Darts Competition, which has drawn in many customers to see our superb showrooms and to meet a long line of suppliers, to whom we’re extremely grateful, for their support and generosity!
